Your Valor Fireplace owner's manual includes instructions on routine maintenance such as glass cleaning and replacement of batteries in your remote receiver and handset. Scheduling a regular maintenance check with your dealer helps to ensure safe and efficient use as well as maximize the service life of your fireplace.
When performing routine maintenance, please keep in mind that fireplace surfaces, in particular the glass viewing window, are extremely hot during operation and will remain hot for a period of time after the fireplace is turned off.
GLASS FIREPLACE WINDOW
One of the by-products of the combustion process in a gas appliance is a mineral which can show up as a white film on the ceramic glass of the viewing door. It is believed to be associated with the varying sulphur content of the gas.
We have consulted with ceramic glass manufacturers and they cannot offer a definitive solution to this problem. This is a problem beyond our control and is not covered under warranty.
As shown in the photo, Dan carefully removes the glass window (after the fireplace has cooled down) before cleaning the fireplace.
Glass Cleaning Instructions
Always securely replace the window and the barrier screen before lighting. Ensure that you DO NOT USE Windex or ammonia based cleaners to clean the window.
Clean White Film
Clean the glass regularly as soon as you notice the buildup (white film). If the film is left for a longer period of time, it will etch into the glass. It is then much harder, if not impossible, to remove.
No Abrasive Cleaners
NEVER use an abrasive cleaner on the ceramic glass. Any abrasion of the surface has the immediate effect of compromising the strength of the glass. An emulsion type cleaner is recommended.
Use a Soft Cloth
Use a soft damp cloth to apply the cleaner. Dry the glass with a soft, dry, preferably cotton cloth. Most paper towels and synthetic materials are abrasive to ceramic glass and should be avoided.
Talk to your Dealer
Our authorized dealers have had good results from the products listed below. We cannot, however, guarantee the results of these products.
Cleaner Options
Glass cleaning options can include Polish Plus by Kelkem, Cook Top Clean Creme by Elco and White Off by Rutland.
Barrier Screens
Our barrier screens are easy to clean, simply use a soft brush to get rid of dust and grime. Put the front or barrier screen back on the fireplace once finished.
Batteries
We strongly recommend replacing the batteries in your receiver and remote control at least once a year for optimal performance. If your Valor has a battery box extension, do not install 4 additional batteries in the receiver, as this could damage the controls.
Cast Iron Accessories
The matte cast iron parts can be brushed clean. The enameled cast iron parts can be cleaned with mild soap and water and then dried with a lint-free soft cloth.
Firebox
Dust can be brushed from the ceramic logs/rocks and firebox walls after removing the front unit and opening the window. When cleaning, make sure that no particles are brushed into the slots of the burner.
Glass Shards
Clean glass by putting them in the dishwasher for a cycle. Ensure they are completely dried before putting them back in the fireplace.
Steel Accessories
Clean steel surrounds and trims with mild soap and warm water on cooled surfaces only. Any alcohol/solvent base cleaner will weaken the coating and damage it.
